BCO Principals

Annamaria Karacson

Concertmaster

Hungarian-born Annamaria Karacson (Concertmaster) has resided in Boulder with her family since 1986.  After completing her studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, she became assistant concertmaster of the Hungarian Opera and Philharmonic Orchestras and of the Festival Orchestra, which she also helped establish. She won first prize in the Hungarian Opera's violin competition and was a recipient of the Bartók-Pásztory award. Ms. Karacson continues her orchestral playing in Colorado as assistant concertmaster of the Boulder Philharmonic, the Boulder Bach Festival and concertmaster of the Mahler Festival orchestras. She is also an active chamber musician and has appeared with University of Colorado music faculty members on numerous occasions and is first violinist of the Columbine String Quartet. 

Sarah Delevoryas

Principal Violin II

Sarah Delevoryas (Principal Violin II) is a violinist with 25 years experience as a teacher and orchestral performer. Mrs. Delevoryas lives in Broomfield where she maintains a private Suzuki studio. She has been a member of the Boulder Chamber Orchestra since 2007; she has been a member of the Boulder Philharmonic since 1997. As a chamber musician, Mrs. Delevoryas performs locally with the Calore Trio (flute, violin, cello). Mrs. Delevoryas taught at Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park summer 2008. Before moving to Colorado from California, Mrs. Delevoryas held orchestra positions with the Fremont Symphony, Santa Cruz Symphony, and Monterey Symphony. She was Concertmaster and soloist with the Livermore Symphony. She was a founding member of the Serenade String Quartet that performed throughout the bay area. At the University of CA, Santa Cruz, she studied violin with Roy Malan and received her B.A. in Music. Her early professional opportunities were with the Reno Chamber Orchestra, Reno Philharmonic and Fargo-Moorhead Symphony.

Yoriko Morita

Principal Cello

Yoriko Morita (Principal Cello) is a freelance cellist in the Boulder/Denver area. She performs regularly with a variety of local orchestras as well as chamber groups.

Yoriko holds a performance degree from Lawrence University; her teachers have included Janet Anthony, Calvin Wiersma, Judith Glyde and Natasha Brofsky. She is also a proud mom of two music-loving children.

Aniel Cabán

Principal Viola

Aniel Cabán (Principal Viola) is currently a Master of Music candidate in Viola Performance at the University of Colorado-Boulder where he studies with Professor Erika Eckert. Mr. Cabán has participated in many world-renowned music festivals some of which include Interlochen Arts Camp, Meadowmount School of Music, Festival Casals of Puerto Rico, Yehudi Menuhin Chamber Music Seminar, the Karen Tuttle Viola Workshop, and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado. His Chamber Music experience includes studies with well-renowned musicians such as Peter Salaff of the Cleveland Quartet, The Takács String Quartet, The Cavani String Quartet, Anne Epperson, and Judith Glyde of the Manhattan String Quartet.

Mr. Cabán received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Viola Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music (2002) where he studied with Stanley Konopka, Assistant Principal Viola of the Cleveland Orchestra. He is currently a member of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra.

Kevin Sylves

Principal Bass

Kevin Sylves (Principal Bass) grew up in Buffalo, NY and earned bachelor degrees in double bass performance and aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan. His double bass teachers included Stuart Sankey, Diana Gannett, Stephen Molina, Paul Bresciani, and Derek Weller. He has performed with several groups in the Boulder area including the Boulder Philharmonic and the Longmont Symphony, and served as Principal Bass with the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific in Powell River, British Columbia. His chamber music experience includes the performance of a bass quartet on the internationally broadcast radio program "Art of the States."

Mr. Sylves is currently pursuing advanced degrees in aerospace at the University of Colorado at Boulder. As an engineer he has worked on several projects for NASA including a particle spectrometer for the MESSENGER mission to study the planet Mercury and micropropulsion devices for various spacecraft. His current research interests include modeling and designing adhesive effects in microscale structures.

Antero Winds, Artists-in-Residence

Antero Winds

Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, and Horn

Antero Winds, formerly known as Arundo Winds, have been attracting attention worldwide as a talented and engaging young international woodwind quintet. Having won first prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition and a silver medal at the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, they were the only U.S.-based semi-finalists at the International Chamber Music Competition in Lyon, France. The ensemble has had an ongoing relationship with the Aspen Music Festival and School, which hosts a series of mini-residencies with the public schools in the Roaring Fork Valley.

We are proud and delighted to welcome the members of Antero Winds as artists-in-residence with our orchestra.
